Kanchan and her daughter Ketki were in the capital to congratulate Gadkari after he was anointed the new BJP chief.

"I have always supported him in whatever he has done," Kanchan told reporters.

She said that her husband had done good work as a minister in Maharashtra and would work in a similar way in Delhi as the BJP president.

Ketki, a college student, said she may not be able to meet her father frequently due to his new assignment. "Now, I may be able to meet him only once a month but I am feeling good," she said.

In his speech after taking over, Gadkari said he will staying over in Delhi for the first time in five years. "Earlier, I used to leave the city by the evening. Whatever task was given to me by the party, I did it," he said.

The Gadkaris have three children - two sons and a daughter.
