The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting on Monday, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said. She, however, did not disclose any timeline or estimated cost of the project.

Once operational, the new plant will produce one-sixth of Delhi’s peak summer demand. “We will be a power surplus city soon,” Dikshit said.

The new plant will supply mainly to IGI Airport, Dwarka and nearby areas, where demand have been increasing over the years, she said.
