New tech to give NDMC a clean edge

The civic body is on its way to install a cutting-edge technology called ORST (Off-site Real-time System Technology) that will fit mobile phones with a high resolution camera, GPS, and a direct connection to NDMC's servers.

At fixed times during the day, the supervisors of the agency's ground staff, such as sweepers and cleaners, will be asked to click photographs of their sites. The officials at the headquarters will check the pictures and based on the result, will guide the supervisions further.

"Instead of physical inspection, the officials will be able to inspect the cleanliness from the headquarters," said a senior official. According to him, the project will take more than a month to complete. He added that the NDMC will be second such municipal corporation to use such technology in their functioning, the first being a corporation in Hyderabad.

In the first phase, 100 such technologically equipped mobile phones will be given to supervisors who will be asked to click photos at 9am and 11am every day.

Based on the success, more gadgets will be provided. Adding that the technology required for this project is already available in the market, the officials said that several companies had expressed their interest in handling this project.

The NDMC has been planning to get the required technology for the job and had floated tenders on July 28 this year. The project is expected to be completed in a month's time.
