NHRC may seek report on Nanda driver's death from police

Taking cognisance of the mysterious death of prominent industrialist Anil Nanda's driver, the National Human Rights Commission said it is planning to seek a report on the matter from the Delhi Police. The NHRC was contacted by driver Janeshwar Sharma's family members.

Taking cognisance of the mysterious death of prominent industrialist Anil Nanda's driver, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Friday said it is planning to seek a report on the matter from the Delhi Police.

"The move is under consideration of the NHRC, we have to take a decision on it yet," an NHRC official said.

The NHRC was contacted by driver Janeshwar Sharma's family members.

Sharma, 41 and a former armyman, was admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital June 9 with 80 percent burns and died a week later on June 15.

No one has been arrested so far even as police registered a case of murder.

Sharma's brother Yogesh Friday said: "The police are not doing anything because of political reasons."

He said industrialist Nanda was being favoured. "I want life imprisonment for the accused persons," Yogesh told reporters.

Before his death, in an interview to CNN-IBN, Sharma said he was being forced by Nanda's associates to tail the industrialist's business partner. He said he had protested and was threatened with dismissal.
