The North Delhi Municipal Corporation runs 788 primary schools and each student gets six notebooks for free in an academic year — depending on the grade in which the student is enrolled.

The scheme exists to encourage EWS children to get education at municipal schools.

“The tendering process of the notebooks got delayed due to the trifurcation. Notebooks for three zones have been procured. However, they will be distributed to the students only after we get the sample testing report. Procurement of notebooks for the other three zones will be completed by this month,” education director Nedu Chezian informed the standing committee of north corporation on Friday.

The issue was raised in the standing committee by leader of opposition Mukesh Goel. “These children from weaker sections need free books and notebooks from municipal bodies in order to pursue education,” he said.
