The Centre has decided to reject the recommendation to promote Justice P.D. Dinakaran to the Supreme Court, ending the three-month crisis.

The move follows pressure from opposition parties and top jurists to drop the Karnataka High Court chief justice, facing allegations of corruption.
The law ministry will soon convey the decision to the Supreme Court panel of top judges (collegium) that recommended Dinakaran on August 27, HT has learnt.
“Justice Dinakaran’s name has been dropped. The controversy surrounding him made it impossible to proceed with the collegium’s recommendation,” said a government source.
HT was the first to report on September 14 the charges (land grabbing, amassing disproportionate assets, helping friends through his rulings) against Dinakaran and the jurists’ objection to promoting him.
