No proposal to limit RTI Act for pvt sector: Govt

There is no proposal to limit or reduce the ambit of the RTI Act with regards to private entities even as request of including private sector in the transparency law have been received from various quarters, Lok Sabha was informed today.

There is no proposal to limit or reduce the ambit of the RTI Act with regards to private entities even as request of including private sector in the transparency law have been received from various quarters, Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

"Requests have been received from various quarters and RTI activists for bringing private banks, private corporations, public private partnership projects, media, education institutions etc under the purview of the RTI Act," minister of state for Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions, V Narayanasamy said in a written reply.

As per section 2(f) of the Act, information relating to any private body, which can be accessed by public authority under any other law for the time being in force, is already within the purview of the Right to Information Act, 2005, he said.

"There is no proposal to limit or reduce the ambit of the RTI Act with regard to private entities," the minister said.
