The corporation is mulling building multi-storey residential complexes at prime locations where it possesses land. The corporation hopes to rake in a few hundred crores by selling flats at such buildings.

"We are planning to demolish the single storey officers' flats as they had been built over 30 years ago and do not justify the optimum land use logic. In place of these flats, we plan to construct multi-storey complexes. The officers would be allotted flats in these building and the rest will be auctioned," said a senior NDMC officer.

The NDMC has around 40 officers flat in an area of around three acres at Minto road in the heart of the capital. The corporation plans to demolish these flats and build multi-storey residential buildings.

"The corporation land at Minto road is valued around a staggering Rs 50,000 per square feet. It amounts to wastage of space having single storey structures at such a prime location. We can build seven to 10 storey towers with over 150 flats," the officer added. "After this proposal is passed by the house, around 100 flats, after keeping aside 50 flats for corporation officers, will be made available for sale at Minto road between the price of R6-8 crore each," he said.

Along with Minto road, the NDMC plans to build similar projects on its land available in Karol Bagh, Civil Lines, Rajpur road and Tees Hazari.

"We have single-storey officers' flats at several other locations. They will also make way for multi-storey buildings," said a standing committee member. The NDMC is hoping that these flats will bring similar revenues as the CWG flats brought for DDA.
