The clamour for party tickets to contest the upcoming civic polls has begun with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointing observers for its 14 zones in the city.

The observers will meet potential candidates and assess their popularity from Monday to Wednesday and report back to the BJP headquarters.

While BJP leaders expect the appointments to help in the selection of candidates, it has made some sitting councillors from outer Delhi unhappy.

According to them, observers can be biased since they cannot explore the councillor’s popularity in three days.

They also feel that the move is uncalled for as candidates will never praise sitting councillors.

“All potential candidates when asked about the councillor’s performance, will obviously try and malign his image,” said a councillor.
