Open school applicants throng form counters

The form counters of the School of Open Learning (SOL) witnessed a large number of applicants on Tuesday. Around 5,000 forms were sold on the same day as compared to 900 and 3,500 on Saturday and Monday respectively.

The form counters of the School of Open Learning (SOL) witnessed a large number of applicants on Tuesday. Around 5,000 forms were sold on the same day as compared to 900 and 3,500 on Saturday and Monday respectively.

The date for the sale of forms had been postponed twice and was scheduled to begin on June 8. “Even though we had announced the date, we began the sale of forms from today. We started early because we did not want students to go back without the forms,” said Dinesh Gupta, deputy director, SOL.

The counters opened at 9.30 am and the sale of forms continued till 3 pm. “A lot of students came today following the announcement we had made earlier,” said Gupta.

The SOL, which is very popular with students, has five undergraduate courses – Political Science (Honours), English (Honours), BCom (Honours), BA programme and BCom programme and post-graduate courses in Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science, History and Commerce. Around one lakh students enroll in these courses every year.

“I did not score well in my Class XII exams but thanks to SOL, I can pursue the BCom (Programme) and Chartered Accountancy simultaneously,” said Anusha Kaushik, an applicant.

Candidates can also download the forms and prospectus from the website http://sol.du.ac.in/, but they need to go the SOL to submit the forms. Apart from the North Campus centre, students living in south Delhi can also go to the Moti Bagh Centre to collect and their forms.
