Top officials of the Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Law and Justice made submissions before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology chaired by T Subbirami Reddy.

Experts from the Tata Memorial Centre, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, and representatives from insurance companies are expected to appear before the Committee for recording their evidence on the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill 2010.

The Committee is expected to examine the draft legislation clause-by-clause on August five before finalising their report.

Last week, Minister of State in the PMO Prithviraj Chavan had said that the Government was open to make the bill more robust and transparent.

The Department of Atomic Energy, he had said, would look at the suggestions made by the panel as soon as it submits its report to Parliament.

"Whatever is acceptable, we will take it to the Cabinet to get the amendments approved and immediately afterwards, we will take the bill for consideration," Chavan had said.
