Police take to flex boards to identify man’s body

For the last two weeks, the police of southeast Delhi have been running from pillar to post to identify a man who could even be a victim of honour killing.

Asking for help from neighbouring police stations, working their intelligence network overtime—everything has failed to help identify this man. With no other option left, the police have now pasted huge flex-board posters at market places and are asking people for help.

They have even pasted the posters behind tempos and autorickshaws in the hope that someone would recognise him.

“We have put up posters in Sangam Vihar, Pul Prahladpur, Badarpur and other areas and even commercial tempos,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

According to the police, this first-of-a-kind measure was taken in desperation, as they are yet to get any leads in the case.

The Govindpuri police found the body of this 25-year-old man on March 19 in the bushes at a park on Maa Anandmayi Marg. His throat was slit and he was stabbed multiple times.

Just like in the Neetu Solanki case, where the police was not able to identify her for 23 days, no one has come forward to identify him or claim the body.

“The body was found at 6am. The body was still warm which indicated that he was killed just three-four hours before. There were no identity papers on him,” added the officer.

There was only one mark, written in henna, on his arm. “Two names —Saurav, and a woman’s name Priyanka — were written with henna on his left arm. We believe his name might be Saurav, but till the time someone comes to identify him, we can’t be sure,” said the officer.

The police have strong reasons to believe it might be a case of honour killing.

“The man was viciously stabbed multiple times. Also there is a name of a woman on his hand. All this gives us strong suspicion to believe that it might be a case of honour killing,” said the officer.
