How lucrative is the industry?
The industry is extremely fertile, and can give immense job satisfaction, if you have passion driving you. Those looking to satiate their creativity within an engineering environment, find product design an extremely fulfilling occupation. In terms of salary, it is one of the most paying sectors.

How big is the industry in the country?
In India, it is still very nascent, as technology here is not at par with the best in the world. Earlier, there was a penchant for global designs, but India specific product designs are now gradually finding flavour. People are becoming demanding and designer products are ready to satiate that.

How lucrative is the career?
Product design is extremely lucrative as it is important across a cross section of categories. But, there is a certain, definite shortage of courses that can train individuals to become quality, professional product designers. Very few, including the National Institute of Design (NID), offer product design courses. This scenario needs attention.

What are the essentials traits for one to be successful in product design?
To be successful as a product designer, one must be aware of what is happening around his/her. For instance, in automobile designing, the designer must be in touch with global designs as well. He/she should be able to design a product that will be contemporary even if it is launched two years later.
