HT reported on Monday that after at least 37 cases of fraud worth R200 crore in 2010, the Gurgaon police warned its officials to verify property transactions in the city and also cautioned the revenue department.

The new rule makes it mandatory for the buyer to submit a computerised affidavit with the applicant's photograph scanned on it, during registration of any property.

The affidavit is given by the applicant on a stamp paper while buying or selling properties.

By the end of this month, the government will also put the records of all property transactions on the internet.

This will allow property owners anywhere in the world to know the status of their properties.

The process of issuing computerised affidavits with the applicant's photograph on it was kicked off in Gurgaon on Tuesday by deputy commissioner (DC) PC Meena, who handed over photo-printed affidavits to two applicants.
