Punjab-cadre IPS officer takes over as police research body chief
Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajan Gupta on Wednesday took over as director general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), a post that had been lying vacant for more than six months.
Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajan Gupta on Wednesday took over as director general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), a post that had been lying vacant for more than six months.
The 1978-batch Punjab-cadre officer will serve as the head of the central police research organisation till his superannuation in March 2015.
Before taking up his new assignment, he was the director general of police (DGP), Punjab State Human Rights Commission.
The post of BPRD director general was being held in an additional capacity by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) chief Rajiv since January after its last full-time DG, Gujarat-cadre IPS officer KN Sharma, retired on December 31, 2012.
The BPRD, which comes under the union home ministry, plays multifarious role in developing new techniques and inducting modern technology for police forces at the central and state levels. A regular chief for this organisation is considered essential for chalking out new plans and strategies.
