Since most of these colleges do not offer an honours course for computer, teachers who teach specialised courses such as BSc programme with computer science, are a hassled lot.

"We don't know what we will teach under the new four-year programme. Computer is not being made an honours course in our college. The final meeting on workload is yet to take place. Until then, everything is uncertain," said a teacher at a prominent north campus college.

According to some professors, however, these teachers have an option to teach the foundation course in information technology. "All those teachers whose workload is being lessened under the new system have an option to teach foundation courses. The colleges have already asked teachers to volunteer to teach such courses. The university has also given colleges a free hand in the matter," said another teacher at Hindu College.

A section of teachers has been protesting against the new four-year system that will be introduced in the coming academic session. According to these teachers, the workload of teachers will be reduced in the new system and this will lead to contractualisation of teaching positions.

The recent objection was raised against the formation of the commerce syllabus saying that the decision to remove certain subjects was undemocratic.

The head of the commerce department, however, released a statement on Thursday refuting the allegations.
