Refused new clothes, child kills self in east Delhi

“Somu’s father had refused to buy her a new set of clothes, following which, she stopped talking to her parents. At 7pm, her parents knocked at the door but got no reply. The father broke open the door and found Somu hanging,” a senior police officer said. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead.

No suicide note was recovered. “The girl had asked for new clothes, but the father refused, as he didn’t have the money,” the officer added. The body was handed over to the family after the post mortem.

In another incident, a 32-year-old woman committed suicide in New Ashok Nagar area on Monday. Police said that the woman had a fight with her relative, after which she hanged herself. “The woman, identified as Kajal, was found hanging at her residence at 7 am,” a senior police officer said.

Police are also exploring the dowry angle in the matter.
