The minor tribal girl, who was rescued a few days back from east Delhi's Geeta Colony, received a cheque of R2.8 lakh from her employers on Thursday.

“For the past few months, we has been focusing on the compensation part. At least 69 children have received compensation in the past four months. We hope this would act as a deterrent,” Ajay Kumar Singh, chairperson of east and northeast CWC said.

Sources said the payment is arrears for four years as she was not paid salary for that period.

The girl was trafficked to Delhi five years back. She was rescued on a complaint filed by NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan.

“It is really an appreciable initiative on the part of CWC to realise the unpaid wages of such child labourers and maids who had been working behind closed walls for no wages or nominal wages for years,” said RS Chaurasia, chairperson of Bachpan Bachao Andolan.

“In the light of the increasing number of cases of child labour abuse in the country, it is also necessary that civil societies come together to demand for a complete ban on child labour in India,” he added.
