Moreover, criminals are not even hesitant to resort to such acts near police stations or offices of the District Magistrate and the senior superintendent of police. Over the last one week, more than 20 snatching incidents have taken place.

“Criminals have no fear of the police. Whenever we go out for shopping or stroll outside the house, we do not know when a biker will strike,” Dr SP Jain, a Sector 27 resident, said.

“Locked houses are not safe even for a few hours. Due to fear of harassment, residents avoid police stations to lodge complaints. We have requested senior police officers to depute some representatives of the federation or residents from societies as special police officers (SPOs) so that a information network can be created,” KP Singh, general secretary, Federation of Residents Welfare Associations of Greater Noida, said.

“Encroachment by vendors around complexes is also a cause of concern. Anti-social elements use such units to observe residents’ movement. We request the authorities to remove such unauthorised vendors,” Prof Roopak Datta said.

“In last two days, no case was reported at any police station in the city. Few days ago, three to four snatchings were reported in a day on two consecutive days.

We have identified target areas and police patrolling has been intensified in such areas. Private security guards have been asked to report movement of suspicious persons to the police immediately," HN Singh, superintendent of police (city), said.
