Contrary to the earlier police claim, it has now turned out to be a case of revenge.

“We have arrested three more people — Udaiveer, Satish and Ravinder — who had also attacked the MLA,” Ashok Chand, additional CP (crime) said. Another accused, Naveen, was arrested by the southwest district police.

Sources said that the attack was planned by Udaiveer, who had arranged arms and cash for the four people who were arrested on Saturday.

Udaiveer claimed during interrogation that the MLA’s brother Kishan Pehalwan had got his (Udaiveer’s) brother and father killed in 2002. Since then, he was nursing a grudge against him. Also, in 2007, Pehalwan had allegedly grabbed his property at his village in Jhadoda Kalan.

Four armed assailants entered Singh’s office and opened fire at him on Saturday morning. Vikas Dagar, Kuldeep Mittal, Sumeet Singh and Virender Sehrawat were arrested earlier.

“Udaiveer got to know that Dagar had slapped Singh and had a scuffle with him earlier. To take revenge, he arranged money, vehicle and arms and also got the assailants trained as most of them did not know how to use them,” said an officer.
