According to the police, the incident came to light at around 10pm when the victim family made a call to the police control room. Ramesh Chand, the husband told the cops that his wife, Sushila was held hostage by unidentified assailants while he was out of the house.

"The accused made entry into the house by posing as salesmen of a marketing company after knocking at the door. They later held the woman hostage on gunpoint and robbed Rs2.5 lakhs in cash and jewellery worth Rs1.30 lakh," said a senior police officer.

Before decamping from the residence, the assailants tied the hands of the victim with a rope and gagged her, police said.

The victim's husband runs a cosmetic products store in Mansarovar Park area. "When I returned home, the main door of the house was ajar. When I went in, I discovered my wife lying in a corner with her hands and feet tied with a rope and immediately made a PCR call," Chand said. "We have registered a case and investigations into the matter are underway," the officer added.
