The Delhi Police on Monday claimed to have arrested an insider in last week’s Rs 5.25-crore robbery at Defence Colony.

Umesh, former employee of a vault managing company, was arrested along with another suspect, Mukesh Saini. Rs 2.60 lakh were seized from them.

The company was handling the money before it was passed on to the cash replenishment agency whose van was looted on September 28.

Police said Umesh and Saini tracked the van’s movements for 10 days before the robbery. Had the robbers struck a day earlier, they would have laid hands on a bigger loot — Rs 14 crore.

Five people have been arrested so far and Rs 2.39 crore recovered. But Hari Kishan, the mastermind, and his four accomplices who hijacked and looted the van are elusive. Police suspect they might have fled to Nepal.

Saini was also known by the name ‘Jackson’ because of his fetish for Michael Jackson T-shirts. He met Kishan while in jail in a cheating case.
