India on Friday said the condition of injured Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah was stable and Islamabad would be provided consular access to the prisoner, who was beaten up brutally in a Jammu prison.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin in a tweet, posted: "India 2 provide #Pakistan consular access to injured prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay once he is in Chandigarh & medical arrangements are in place."

The government has granted permission to three Pakistani officials for consular access to the injured Pakistani prisoner in a Chandigarh hospital.

Akbaruddin on Friday evening gave the information in a tweet.

India has allowed three Pak High Commission officials and one driver to go to PGI, Chandigarh, where the prisoner is recuperating, according to PTI report.

Sanaullah was critically injured when he was attacked by a fellow prisoner, police in Jammu on Friday, a day after Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh died following brutal attack on him in a Lahore jail.

A resident of Sialkot, he was attacked by a former Indian Army soldier, convicted for murder, following an altercation Friday morning, a police officer said. Read: Pakistan condemns attack on prisoner in Indian jail

He received serious head injuries and was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu, where doctors said he had slipped into a coma, much like Sarabjit Singh who was attacked in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail on April 26 and died Thursday.

Police said Sanaullah was being tried for murder since the late 1990s for carrying out acts of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
