The Supreme Court on Monday allowed former UP Minister and Madhumita Shukla murder case accused Amarmani to be taken out from Dehradun Central Jail to Maharajganj for filing of nomination papers from Laxminagar constituency in the ongoing assembly elections in the state.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan, which had earlier issued notice to the CBI on Tripathi’s petition challenging an Uttaranchal High Court dismissing his plea in this regard, ordered the Dehradun Central Jail authorities to allow him to be taken to
Mararajganj for for filing of nomination papers between April 18 and 22. However, he will remain in custody during this period.
Tripathi, his wife Madhumani and two others are facing trial in the 2003 Madhumita Shukla murder case at Dehradun after the apex court transferred the case from Lucknow.
The court accepted Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanian’s submitted that at least two CBI officials should be permitted to accompany the accused and that he should be taken to Maharajganj by train.
