According to reports, the SC issued the notice on a petition filed by Amit Sibal, who is the son of Union law minister Kapil Sibal.

Amit had moved court against Kejriwal and Bhushan who had alleged that he had taken advantage of his father's position to represent certain telecom companies.

He had filed the defamation suit against Kejriwal and Bhushan and the trial court had issued process against them in July of last year.

After the trial court issued process and summoned them for appearance, Kejriwal and Bhushan subsequently moved the Delhi high court seeking discharge from the case.

The HC had on January 16, 2014 refused to quash the proceedings against the AAP leaders but had told the trial court to consider the discharge plea of Kejriwal and Bhushan.

Amit then challenged this order in the Supreme Court alleging that it was beyond the provisions of law.

Proceedings against the four leaders in the defamation case can continue in the trial court.
