The students union at JNU has once again crossed swords with the administration following show-cause notices to 11 students.

The notices were issued on Wednesday to JNU Students Union (JNUSU) president Dhananjay Tripathi, joint secretary Jyotsana and general secretary Sandeep Singh among others for holding the university registrar hostage in his vehicle in February this year.

Students had held Registrar Avais Ahmed hostage in his car for over six hours after he had ordered removal of pamphlets pasted on campus walls by students. The pamphlets were in support of laborers’ demand for daily wages.
An administrative official said on condition of anonymity, “We issued show-cause notices to them (students) on Wednesday on their involvement in holding the registrar hostage.”

“By taking this action now, the administration is sidestepping the actual issue. It is a well-known fact that labourers involved in construction work at JNU are not given their daily wages,” said Sandeep Singh.
JNUSU has issued a pamphlet against the administration’s action.
