Gurgaon police on Monday booked six persons of a family, including the father of a 17-year old girl, on charges of murdering and cremating the teenager.

The minor had reportedly eloped with a neighbour.

Police said both the families, of the boy as well as the girl, have fled from Patli Hazipur village in Farrukhnagar and no arrests were made till Monday evening.

The girl, a BA I student at Government Girls College, MG Road, and Munesh Singh who is perusing his B. Tech degree course from a private college had gone missing at the same time from the village on December 24, said Jaswant Singh, the SHO Farrukhnagar police station.

Singh (25) was married two years back and was living in the same locality as the dead teenager. He has no children. “Munesh Singh and the girl were spotted somewhere in the neighbouring district of Rewari by their families the next day on December 25 and were brought to the village. A panchayat (community meeting) followed and a compromise was reached between the two sides. But on December 26 evening, Dharambir Singh along with five more relatives killed his daughter and cremated her body in a hush hush manner by 3.00 a.m.,” the SHO said.

“We got to know of it around noon on December 27. We collected the remains of the body from the pyre as evidence for a DNA test and sent it to the forensic laboratory.”

The deceased was one of the four and the youngest daughter is main accused Dharambir Singh.

The SHO said a case under sections 302 (murder), 201 (destroying evidence) and 120B (planning to commit crime) has been registered against Dharambir Singh and five other members of his family.
