Slip road linking Barapullah with Jangpura slated to open next week

One, the much-awaited slip road connecting the Barapullah elevated road with Lala Lajpat Rai Marg is almost complete and is likely to be thrown open for traffic next week.

Two, the PWD on Wednesday appointed a consultant to prepare a detailed project report on extending the road till Mayur Vihar.

Though the slip road may not be officially inaugurated after the notification of MCD elections and subsequent implementation of the model code, senior public works department (PWD) officials said motorists would be allowed to use it.

“The slip road connects Barapullah elevated road with Lala Lajpat Rai Marg just next to Jangpura. Motorists heading towards Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, areas along the BRT corridor and South Extension will be benefited,” said a senior PWD engineer.

“It will reduce pressure on Maharani Bagh and Ashram stretch of Ring Road, which witnesses bumper-to-bumper traffic in the morning,” the engineer added.

This slip road — along with another under-construction road to connect Sarai Kale Khan-bound traffic coming from Jangpura side (likely to open in May 2012) — is a part of the ambitious Barapullah elevated road project.

The PWD plans to extend the elevated road up to INA Market in the west and Mayur Vihar in the east. While a consultant has been appointed to prepare a DPR for the east expansion, PWD engineers said the west extension is awaiting cabinet approval.
