There was a snag in the track circuit near the Dwarka station due to which the trains had to be run manually at restricted speeds. This caused bunching of trains on the line towards Dwarka, said a spokesperson of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The problem occurred around 5.30pm and the service remained affected till 6.45pm.

The commuters had a harrowing time. “I boarded a train at Anand Vihar at 6.05pm and reached Barakhamba in 45 minutes. The packed train was running at a very slow pace and halted at every station for longer periods,” said Radhika Sharma, a commuter.

Rajiv Chowk was overcrowded and trains were running at a gap of nearly six minutes. Repeated announcements were made regarding the technical fault inside trains and at every station.

“I was going to meet my ailing grandmother, who had to undergo a major surgery today. But I got late due to the snag,” said Pankaj Bhambani, another commuter.

Holi advisory

If you have to catch a flight anytime till afternoon on Wednesday, do not depend on the Airport Metro. The train service on the 22.7km corridor will start at 2pm on Holi.

Trains will run as per schedule after 2pm till 11.30pm, said a spokesperson of Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL), the concessionaire of the Airport Metro express.

Delhi metro services will also be available only after 2pm on Wednesday.
