Son of IFS officer held for possessing wildlife articles

The Malviya Nagar Police on Friday arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly possessing prohibited wildlife articles. The arrested person, identified as Dev Khurana, was arrested from his 1/3 Sarv Priya Vihar residence on Friday afternoon.

Khurana, son of a former IFS officer, is an exporter.

Police recovered four carved elephant tusks, one tiger head trophy, one elephant paw, two ivory idols, some ivory artifacts and one laptop from Khurana's residence.

"During interrogation, Khurana told us that he inherited all these articles from his father. We have arrested him as he hasn't declared that he was in possession of wildlife items," said a senior police officer.

Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south) said that the arrest came following information received at Malviya Nagar police station about the presence of prohibited wildlife articles at Khurana's house.

Some activists from the People for Animals (PFA) had claimed that they had specific inputs about the banned articles. Accordingly, a team, under the supervision of Station House officer Atul Kumar was constituted.

A raid was conducted at the said house and the prohibited wildlife articles were recovered. Wildlife Inspectors and one PFA activist were also present at the time of the raid.
