South body mops up Rs 310 cr in property tax

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has set a new record in terms of property tax collection by collecting a revenue of around R310 crore in the first quarter.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has set a new record in terms of property tax collection by collecting a revenue of around R310 crore in the first quarter. Calling it an all-time high figure, a South official said this was more than what the unified MCD collected in the first quarter of the last financial year.

"Last year the unified corporation had collected R290 crore, out of which the South body had R143 crore, in the first quarter. This year the target is R700 crore and we are quite hopeful that this time, too, it will be surpassed," assessor and collector BN Singh said.

According to him, people now are much more aware of their tax liabilities and thereby this increase in revenue. "Better services also lead to better tax realisation. This year there wasn't a single complaint from all four zones," Singh said.
