Sports star gives traffic tips

Delhi Traffic Police are using celebrities to ensure that maximum number of women bikers wear helmets while driving. On Sunday, the police made India's athlete icon PT Usha come on roads, stop women bikers or pillion riders and insist that they to wear helmets the next time they drive.

Delhi Traffic Police are using celebrities to ensure that maximum number of women bikers wear helmets while driving. On Sunday, the police made India's athlete icon PT Usha come on roads, stop women bikers or pillion riders and insist that they to wear helmets the next time they drive. "Your own safety is more important than law. Not wearing helmet while on bike may save you from police, but not from accidents," Usha said.

A week ago, actor Vivek Oberoi had strapped helmets of bikers. Satyendra Garg, JCP (traffic), said, "We hope law would get amended soon and make helmet must for women too. The matter is pending in high court." Five to seven lakh women ride two-wheelers in Delhi daily, said police.
