It was a memorable evening replete with stirring, foot-tapping music in a medley of Indian as well as international languages at the Festival of Choirs hosted by Springdales School at the India International Centre here on Saturday, as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the school.

A total of 74 talented and energetic students, clad in white shirts, black trousers and red robes sang as many as 28 songs broadly divided into progressive, regional, patriotic and classical categories during the performance that lasted over two hours.

“Music is the universal language. Songs convey messages which help understanding lifestyles. Music is love, love is music,” said the principal Dr. Jyoti Bose in her opening remarks while welcoming sitar maestro Pt.Debu Chaudhuri, who was the chief guest, other dignitaries as well as parents.

The event began with songs of protest in Hindi, Urdu and Bengali, followed by other regional numbers, to the accompaniment of a mix of traditional Indian as well as western instruments.

As the evening progressed, a group of six students of the Austrian Choir Group presented songs. The proceedings took on African, Turkish, Arabic, Italian, Sindhi flavours and even Kailash Kher’s popular Hindi number ‘Saiyan’ was rendered by the duo of Kamakshi Khanna and Kushan Dhawan.
