Education: After school, he joined an aeronautical engineering course but discontinued midway. Later, did a course in cheese making.

Political career: A life member of RSS. Entered active politics in 1977 and joined the then Janata Party. Got a BJP ticket in 1983 to contest MCD polls. There has been no looking back since then. He was a municipal councillor from 1983 to 1990. Contested assembly elections for the first time in 1998 and won. Was re-elected in 2003.

Family: Father was in publishing business. His family migrated to India from Karachi in 1947 when he was 10 months old. Wife Asha Choudhery retired as non-gazatted officer from the Union Health Ministry. They have a son and two daughters.

Cars: Family owns a silver Chevrolet Optra and a silver Santro.
