Suspended BJP MP seeks release of air ticket
Suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara, who was arrested last year in connection with a human trafficking case, has approached a Delhi court seeking release of his impounded air ticket.
In an application filed in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AK Kuhar, the 47-year-old lawmaker sought the release of his air ticket on the ground that it was no longer required for the investigation in the alleged human trafficking case.
Katara, who represents reserved Dohad Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat, submitted that the Crime Branch of Delhi Police had already filed the chargesheet in the case and that he should be allowed to get the money back by getting the ticket cancelled.
The court took the application into its records and deferred the hearing on the plea of Katara, who is in jail since his arrest on April 18 last year.
Katara, whose seven attempts to secure bail have been rejected by various courts on the ground that his offence was serious as he committed it in the capacity of an MP, was chargesheeted by the police in July last year.
The MP, who actually has three children, was accused of procuring six passports in the name of six kids who he claimed were his children.
Katara was nabbed while attempting to fly out one Paramjeet Kaur and a 15-year-old boy to Toronto on passports of his wife and son.
Besides him, other accused in the case included Rajendra Kumar Gumpa, Kiran Dhar, Sunder Lal Yadav, travel agents Satwant and Mohammed Rasheed.
