Teen commits suicide after mother slaps her in school

A 14-year-old student committed suicide in east Delhi's Jagatpuri on Friday, as she was allegedly feeling humiliated after being slapped by her mother in front of her teacher.

A 14-year-old student committed suicide in east Delhi's Jagatpuri on Friday, as she was allegedly feeling humiliated after being slapped by her mother in front of her teacher.

The incident was reported from the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya around 2:30pm. The deceased had been identified as one Mansi Pawar, the daughter of a cleaner employed by the MCD.

"She had not attended classes for the past few days. When she reached school this morning, her class teacher called her mother to explain her absence. Angry with her daughter, the mother allegedly slapped and rebuked her in the teacher's presence," said a senior police officer.

After the school time was over, the girl went to a vacant classroom and hung herself with crepe bandage from the ceiling fan. The local police were informed and Mansi was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

"No suicide note has been recovered but given the chain of events that preceded the incident, it appears that she took the extreme step as she felt humiliated,” the officer added.
