Tigri ‘jilted lover’ kills girl’s neighbour

The incident sparked off a series of events that culminated in the death of a 62-year-old in south Delhi’s Tigri village.

After being beaten up, the girl’s friend, Mohsin, returned to Sangam Vihar with accomplices and roughed up the four youths.

The four, in return, went to Tigri village and threatened the girl and knifed her mother Kamla Devi, their neighbours Prakasho Devi and Jagat Singh.

While Singh, a former Indian Air Force employee, died, Kamla and Prakasho are being treated at separate hospitals.

The visibly shaken girl said she was in Sangam Vihar for tuitions with Mohsin when the four youths, including her jilted lover, attacked them.

“I returned home and informed my mother. Mohsin and his uncle went to Sangam Vihar and thrashed them. Around 6.30pm, I was outside my house with my mother when the four youths came to kill me. My mother told me to go inside,” said the girl, a Class 10 student at a private school in Madangir.

“A few minutes later, they stabbed my mother in her stomach and neck. Hearing my mother’s scream, my neighbours, Prakasho and Singh, came to her rescue. The men attacked them with knives and fled,” added the girl.

Police have registered cases of murder and attempt to murder at the Neb Sarai police station against the four accused, identified as Neeraj, the alleged jilted lover of the girl, and his three friends — Sanjay, Sandeep and Lucky.

Angry over the incident, scores of Tigri village residents on Saturday staged a protest.

“Our protest is against the police because even 18 hours after the incident, the accused have not been arrested. We will continue our protest till we see the assailants, who always misbehave and pass filthy comment on our daughters whenever they are out, behind the bars,” said Meenakshi, Singh’s daughter.

“The police have promised to arrest the assailants by tonight. If they fail to keep their promise, we will start our protest again and this time on a broader scale,” said Ramnath Singh, a neighbour.
