Tihar jail woman inmate commits suicide
A 23-year-old woman inmate of the capital's high security Tihar Jail committed suicide by hanging herself from the window grill of her cell on Tuesday, jail officials said.
Alka, who was brought to the jail in June for the murder of her new born baby in Kalyanpuri area, was found hanging at around 10.30 am by a fellow inmate.
"Alka was admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital and was declared brought dead," said a jail official.
"For the past few days she was depressed. We don't suspect any foul play," the jail official added.
In a separate incident, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Delhi Police committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of his house in Bindapur area of west Delhi.
According to police, Daya Kishan, 53, was mentally depressed for the past few months and it might have forced him to take the extreme step.
Police said the victim's suicide note read: "I am taking my life and no one should be held responsible." He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
