A gray, overcast sky throughout the day followed by continuous drizzle — 0.8 mm rainfall — in the evening added to the chill as Delhiites reached out for winter wear much ahead of the real winter.

“The depression over the Arabian sea coupled with rain and snow in the hills are bringing in this chill and moisture,” said the duty officer at the Safdarjung office of the Met department. The minimum temperature on Thursday was 15.6 degree Celsius.

“It is likely to rain in the next two days. The chill-factor is here to stay as well,” he said. With so much moisture, the day began with mild fog in the morning.

The weatherman said the visibility reduced to 700 meters around 9.30 a.m. and started getting better only around 11 a.m.

“If the days remain wintry like this, then it will be as good as an early winter,” said Arvind Saxena, an MNC executive who lives in Oklha.

“The constant wind was quite irritating. The sun was absent the whole day,” said Sudha Chaubey, a housewife in Safdarjung Enclave.

But the weatherman refused to say whether this meant an early onset of winter.

“The present weather is the result of a certain temporary meteorological conditions, which will clear out after a while. The onset of winter will be next month,” he said.

The Met department has predicted mist with chances of rainfall in the next three days with thundershowers and possibility of fog in the morning.
