The veterinary hub, which was to come up in Mukundpur near Burari, had to have facilities ranging from animal shelter and sterilisation units to a veterinary dispensary and a canine cremation ground.

Even after the trifurcation of the corporation, the work has failed to take off. The 27 acre land allotted for the project is under the jurisdiction of North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The corporation officials said that the project has been in limbo as the land use was to be changed for the project to come up at the Mukandpur site. "It was earlier a landfill site which was also encroached upon. Last year, files were sent to the urban development ministry for the change of land use but nothing happened," said a senior officer.

The north corporation is also struggling to sterilise the dogs in its area as all the NGOs that were responsible for sterilisation now come under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
