With 16% jump, city is second on per capita income list

Delhi's per capita income is three times higher than the national average at R1.75 lakh in 2011-12.
In the previous fiscal, Goa had the highest per capita income followed by Chandigarh.
The figures were made public in report on 'Estimates of State Domestic Product 2010-2011' prepared by Delhi government's directorate of economics and statistics. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who also holds the finance portfolio, released the report on Friday.
The per capita income of people in Delhi at current prices, without factoring in inflation, has been estimated at R1,75,812 — a rise of R25,159 from R1,50,653 in 2011-12.
Goa topped the list once again with a per capita income of R1,92,652, while Haryana with a per capita income of R1,09,227 has taken the third position. The national average has been worked out at R60,972.
"These figures reflect that the economy of Delhi is going forward on the path of sustainable economic growth in a considerable manner," said Dikshit.
The boost has come from real estate business, banking and insurance, and hotels and restaurants.
With 25.38% of the total domestic product, banking and insurance sectors stood out as the biggest contributor to the economy. The real estate sector and hotels and restaurants contributed 19.16% and 17.94%, respectively, to Delhi's gross state domestic product (GSDP) in 2009-2010, according to the report.
Delhi government officials said the per capita income of Delhi in 1998-99 was R40,060 against R1,75,812 in 2011-12 which reflects a hike of 339 per cent during the last 13 years.
They said the estimates have been prepared as per methodology prescribed by the Central Statistical Organisation on the basis of provisional data provided by it and other government sources.
The report has been prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Delhi government.
