A 21-year-old woman was strangled to death in southwest Delhi’s Palam on Wednesday by her husband and her sister for objecting to their alleged extra-marital affair.

The two were nabbed before they could dispose of her body and flee the city, the police said. The woman, Pooja, was murdered 42 days after she was married to 25-year-old courier boy, Rahul.
Rahul fell in love with Pooja’s sister, Rinki, on the second day of his marriage. Rinki too fell for her brother-in-law and decided to marry him at any cost.
Even as the married couple shifted to their home in Gurgaon, Rinki and Rahul continued to meet. They both visited each other’s houses giving petty excuses.
Twenty days ago, Rahul convinced Pooja to visit her parents and stay with them for some days. Pooja, who was unaware of Rahul’s plans, was ecstatic to know how her husband respected and cared for her family. The couple moved to Pooja’s parents’ home in Palam.
Three days ago, Pooja left home for some work, leaving behind her husband and sister at home. Her father, who owns a tea shop, and other family members were away.
When Pooja returned home, she found Rinki in a compromising position with her husband. When she confronted her husband, Rinki entered into an altercation with her sister.
Pooja threatened to tell everybody in the family about the affair. This enraged her husband and sister and they decided to get rid of her, the police said.
Surender Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (southwest), said that Pooja was strangled by her husband and sister on Wednesday evening after an argument over their affair.
“After murdering Pooja, Rahul asked Rinki to pack her bag and wait for him at the Janakpuri Metro station. He told Rinki that he would meet her at the Metro station after disposing Pooja’s body,” the DCP said.
While Rahul was wrapping Pooja’s body in a bedsheet, her father arrived home and saw him. Rahul tried to leave but was overpowered by his father-in-law who then raised an alarm and alertedthe neighbours about the incident.
“A neighbour called the police and Rahul was arrested. Rinki was also arrested from the Metro station,” said Kumar. A case of murder was registered against the two.
