The first floor flat, owned by a local, Gurudev Singh, had been rented out to Innocent Nwayo about two and a half months ago.
Additional commissioner of police V Renganathan said Nwayo, according to information available from the Foreign Regional Registration Office, arrived in the Capital on October 31 last year on a work visa valid for one year.
Police sources said the woman, possibly of Nepali origin, seemed to be around 22-23 years old and had at least 15 injury marks. The body has been sent for autopsy.
Around 4.15pm on Friday, Singh’s sister, who lives in a ground floor flat in the same building, noticed a foul smell emanating from the first floor flat.
When the police broke open the door, they found a black carry-bag, containing the rotting body of the woman. Renganathan said, “We are yet to identify the body as it is in a highly decomposed state. A case of murder has been registered at the Uttam Nagar police station.”
