The in-laws of a 23-year-old woman stabbed her to death on Thursday morning over filling water from a public tap at Wazirpur slum colony in northwest Delhi.

The deceased's husband also suffered minor wounds when he tried to stop his father and brothers from killing his wife.
Police said the incident took place at around 8am when Bobby, one of the accused, was taking a bath at the public tap. Mumtaz, the victim, came there and asked Bobby to let her fill her bucket first. An altercation broke out between them over the issue and Bobby's father, Roshan Khan and Mohammad Shakil also joined the brawl.
Mumtaz's husband Mohammad Mukhtiyar tried to intervene but he too was beaten up by his father and brothers.
Seeing her husband being beaten up by her in-laws, Mumtaz rushed to a nearby telephone booth and called up the police control room, said a police officer. “When she returned home and told her in-laws about the PCR call, Roshan and Bobby overpowered her while Shakil stabbed her. Mukhtiyar came to her rescue but he was also stabbed. Both of them were rushed to Babu Jag Jivan Ram hospital where Mumtaz was pronounced dead on arrival," added the officer.
