Blaming Tihar authorities for a recent group clash inside the jail, Dikshit told DG (Prison) Vimla Mehra to improve security and safety arrangements in the jail premises.

A violent clash between inmates of the high-security Tihar Jail in New Delhi on Friday left one dead and eight injured.

"The chief minister told Tihar Jail DG to take steps to prevent incidents of assault among the prisoners. She made it clear that government will not tolerate such lapses in future," a Delhi government official said.

In a meeting, Dikshit reviewed the present security situation in Tihar and asked Mehra to submit a blueprint on improving the security to Delhi government within a week.

"Authorities at Tihar jail have been asked to prepare the draft taking into consideration the lapses and deficiencies observed in the recent past," the official added.

Besides, the Tihar authorities have been asked to prepare a blueprint to improve the security in the jail within a week.

While the authorities were asked to keep all CCTVs and mobile phone jammers functional, Dikshit also underlined the need to contain incidents of smuggling of objectionable items inside the jail.

"The authorities have also been told to keep a close eye on the movement and activities of inmates especially convicts of dreaded criminal cases," the official said.

The meeting was also attended by chief secretary DM Spolia, principal secretary (home) Arvind Ray.
