A resident of Vijay Vihar near Rohini, the minor girl was allegedly abducted by a neighbour on October 3, 2008 and taken to his native place in Uttar Pradesh.

She was rescued from Jalandhar on September 9, 2009 following repeated requests by her father.

"If local police would have taken immediate steps to trace my daughter, the present situation could have been avoided,” her father Sat Narayan said in his petition. Narayan was seeking compensation for the late treatment of the case.

The court has issued a notice to the police based on the petition. A Bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah also directed the police to ensure the child adequate medical facilities.

The girl, in the advanced stage of pregnancy, did not want to go back to the custody of her kidnapper who has been arrested for abduction and rape.

The court was hearing a matter in which it had taken suo motu cognizance (by itself) of newspaper reports that claimed 2,210 children went missing in the Capital between June 1, 2008 and January 12 under mysterious circumstances.
