Gurugram schools asked to furnish information for assessment

The UDISE serves as the primary information source for educational planning and assessing the progress of schools under programmes initiated by the Central government. The department of education has asked private, government and government-aided schools across the district to furnish information about different aspects of the school by April 30 under the ministry of human resources development’s Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), databank used for assessment of schools . At least 1,144 schools across the district need to impart the details being sought that will be assessed randomly by the department of education. The information submitted by schools will be additionally used for fund allocation and assessment.

Ritu Chowdhary, district project coordinator, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan — an overarching programme for school education extending from pre-school to class 12 — informed that forms seeking the required information had already been delivered to 1,144 schools across the district.

“Collecting data from schools is a crucial exercise, which allows the government to identify factors affecting a school’s performance in terms of enrolment and retention, and other parameters. To complete the process effectively, a team of master trainers from Chandigarh has trained the block-level education officers (BLOs) who will be closely working with schools and helping them wherever required. BLOs have shared the forms with schools, and schools are mandated to furnish the necessary information by April 30,” said Chowdhary.

Random checks in schools will also be conducted by the department to ensure that the information furnished by them is accurate, and a representative of the facilities is present in schools. “The exercise aims to collect accurate data, which will be assessed and used for implementing initiatives and allocating funds for the rest of the year. I along with other officials will also be inspecting schools to check that false information is not shared,” she added.

Once the data from the district is collected, the district project officer will send the results to the state project department.
