After a 47-year-long battle, a retired IAS officer Ajit Singh Singhvi was on Thursday awarded a gold medal by Rajasthan University for securing first position in LLB examination which he passed in 1969.

The 81-year-old Singh had passed LLB exam in 1969 and secured highest marks in aggregate but was given second position reportedly to allow a college to maintain its merit track record.

To ensure that college holds over the merit track record, the varsity counted merit only on the basis of marks secured in the final year, whereas in aggregate Singhvi had received the highest marks.

Singhvi disapproved the result and approached the court claiming that he deserves first position and the result be reevaluated and revised accordingly.

His plea was accepted by the court and he finally won the case from Rajasthan High Court.

Rajasthan University Vice Chancellor J P Singhal awarded him the gold medal and a certificate at a simple ceremony at the varsity.
