“ODL has been recognised as an effective tool to empower those sections of the society which cannot afford to join formal education. ODL is also making significant contribution in areas such as vocational and technical education and high technology based education,” says professor Rasheeduzaffar, advisor, directorate of distance and open learning (DODL), Jamia Hamdard.

Around 3,000 students apply every year at Jamia Hamdard in the distance learning mode. “BBA, BCA, postgraduate diplomas in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and human rights are the most popular courses. We will also introduce diploma and bridge courses for madarsas and deprived sections of the society,” says Rasheeduzaffar.

DODL provides facilities like central library, computer centre, conventional centre, hostel etc. “DODL has made concerted efforts to offer professional and job oriented courses with regular updates of curricula and study material and introduction of information technology tools. Self-instructional material is prepared to suit the requirements of the students. Our courses under ODL are launched after deliberation by experts from the academia and the industry,” says Rasheeduzaffar.
