The biggest controversy in Bollywood this year was filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s ambitious project, Heroine, apparently stalling after its lead actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (right) announced her pregnancy, after filming the project for 10 days. Bhandarkar, who announced the flick with Ash at Cannes this year, then convinced his first choice, Kareena Kapoor (far right) to step in for the role.
Winning strip... oops spree!
Model Poonam Pandey (right) became the talk of the town after she announced that she would go nude if Team India won the World Cup 2011. However, it was a no-show from her, and the controversies that followed sidelined her claims as a publicity gimmick. She managed to still get noticed and bagged Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 4 before posting her bikini-clad pics on Twitter in order to ‘motivate’ Team India during their England tour.
IT returns... this year!
IT officials raided actor Priyanka Chopra’s Versova flat early this year and found actor Shahid Kapoor (below right) arguing with them for his then reported girlfriend, while actor Katrina Kaif’s Bandra flat was raided too in the wee hours of the morning. According to reports, Kat’s then beau, Ranbir Kapoor, had left her flat just before the officials arrived. Kat, however, denied this.
An over excited Mallika Sherawat reached the Oscars red carpet even before the media arrived. However, actor-couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reportedly told their agents to ensure that they reach the venue only after the Hisss siren had strut her stuff on the Kodak Theatre red carpet, in order to avoid a run in with Sherawat.
Bips’ child labour?
Actor Bipasha Basu created a stir when she tweeted a picture of two little girls tying her shoelaces early this summer. Basu was criticised for the same and even accused of child labour by both fans and social organisations. Bips, however, claimed that it was just one of her cousin sisters and her friend helping her tie her heavy boots. But, fans tweeted back, saying it was hard to buy her excuse.
Sonakshi in trouble
Actor Sonakshi Sinha was in a soup when her Pakistani fans criticised her for uploading a morphed photo of an Indian batsman hitting Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi on the field. She tweeted the pic with the caption, De Ghumaake. Her fans across the border criticised her for the same. The Dabangg actor later apologised for her mistake, stating, “I am all for ‘love thy neighbour’.”
Actor Celina Jaitley (far right) surprised everyone this year with the announcement that she was in a relationship with Dubai-based hotelier Peter Haag (right) before revealing in August through her Twitter account that she had a quiet wedding in July and did not announce it due to a personal tragedy. News then spread that she had got married as she was pregnant. The actor denied this. Celina is now expecting twins in April.
Big B skipped IIFA this year again like last year, stating that the organisers did not want him.
Veterans Mahesh Bhatt and Javed Akhtar fought over the issue of lyricists’ copyrights versus film producers on Twitter.
Govinda was reported to have beaten up his brother-in-law, Praveen Khanna, over a financial disagreement for a film project.
